Mixed media: African textiles & lampshade waste on canvas board.
This is a total departure from my day to day but I love a good cause too. This will be my 4th exhibition ( the others were of my lampshades).
My Samarivan collage was inspired by my deep passion for African textiles, colours & patterns. As a lampshade designer/maker I never throw away my textile nor lampshade waste. I've always found use for them - reuse, recycle & recreate!
So I created my VW SAMARIVAN using both fabric waste & my lampshade making supplies remnants. As well as old highlighters & marker pens I found lying about - which to my surprise hadn't dried up yet.
Bio
Hello I'm Tola Laseinde the founder of Detola and Geek- an award-winning home & lifestyle black brand.
I am best known for creating vibrant & bold statement lampshades with African inspired textiles & prints from my home studio based in Letchworth Garden City.
My USP is making handmade lampshades with alternative inside linings - gold silver bronze or champagne. This gives them that extra luxe factor & glow. I also make double-sided lampshades (inside-out lampshades) as well as table & floor lamps. I do take on custom & bespoke orders to suit your needs and can use your own fabric for something more tailored to your interior needs.
I teach lampshade making workshops and the good thing is I come to you. They can be hosted at your workplace home etc. My workshops are fun, hands on and no experience is needed as they're beginner classes. Just ask Sarah - that's how we met!
You can find me selling in person at maker/handmade markets. There's a list of upcoming events on my website & social media pages if you would like to buy in person.
I am open to collaborations as well as commissions.
