I wanted to create something that reminded me of the 1960’s, with lots and lots of colour. Using a 60’s fabric sample as inspiration, I hand cut this layered paper van, using 17 different coloured papers and approximately 100 craft blades. The van is raised and backed on a hand cut double layered black background, where the floral pattern is a continuation of that used on the van’s panels.
When Sarah asked if I would like to be involved in this project I was so excited. Being able to support a charity that does so much great work meant a great deal to me. The Samaritans are a lifeline to so many; they offer support when it feels like there is no one else. They make sure you are never alone. From my own personal experience, I can’t begin to express how important this can be.

I picked up a craft blade for the first time in October 2019 and, multiple projects and thousands of used craft blades later, I’m officially a paper cutting obsessive. During Covid, I found solace in my art as I suffer with clinical depression and the isolation of lockdown took a massive toll on my mental health. Having a creative outlet was so important for me and has continued to be both a joyful and therapeutic pastime.
