When I was asked by Sarah if I would like to complete one of her Samarivans I was honoured and jumped at the chance. Sarah has asked over 150 artists to take part and will be auctioning off each piece to raise money for the @samaritans charity in September.
As an Art Teacher at a Pupil Referral unit in a deprived area of Hull, I know just how important mental health charities are. I see the crushing effects of mental health on our young people in today's society on a daily basis, so to have the chance to contribute to such an amazing support network for many people, I couldn't wait to get stuck in.
I've always found Art to be a therapy for my own struggles especially abstract painting. This is where I can get lost in texture, mark making and colour mixing. I'm often inspired by nature and it's natural colours with a hint of metallic!
My Samarivan represents calm and mindfulness, which often helps with the struggles of mental health issues in day to day life with a touch of Golden eccentricity!
